Changes to Taxi and Drop-Off Arrangements at Helsinki Airport Starting January 2025
Starting January 1, 2025, Helsinki Airport will introduce significant changes to its taxi and passenger drop-off procedures as part of Finavia's ongoing efforts to enhance the customer experience. These adjustments are aimed at improving the flow of traffic around the airport and ensuring a smoother experience for both passengers and those accompanying them.
Clearer Taxi Operations at Helsinki Airport
In autumn 2024, Finavia initiated a competitive tendering process for Helsinki Airport's taxi lane 4, which had previously been open to all taxi companies without restrictions. Lähitaksi will take over operations on lane 4 from January 2025, while other taxi companies operating on the same lane will cease their operations. This change is designed to improve the quality and reliability of taxi services at the airport.
The airport’s three other taxi lanes will remain available to contract partners, and the new model aims to calm traffic in the area while improving the overall taxi experience for passengers. Additionally, a dedicated pick-up point for ride-hailing services (such as Uber) will be created in the P2 parking hall, which is conveniently located near the terminal and has direct access from the arrivals hall. This new pick-up point will serve both contracted taxis and non-contracted ones.
Improved Passenger Drop-Off Process
To ensure smoother traffic flow, Finavia will introduce a time limit for cars stopping in the drop-off area in front of the terminal. Starting January 2025, the maximum stop time will be limited to eight minutes. After that, a fee of EUR 5 will be charged for every additional five minutes. This change aims to free up space in the drop-off area, preventing long-term parking from obstructing the flow of passenger drop-offs.
For those with longer visits, affordable parking options will be available at the P2 parking hall or in short-term parking areas, where drivers can leave their cars for the duration of their visit to the terminal.
Automated Traffic Monitoring
The drop-off area will use vehicle registration plate identification to monitor stop times. If the vehicle stays under the eight-minute limit, no action will be required from the driver. However, if the time limit is exceeded, drivers will be asked to pay the extra time online via Finavia’s website.
Coordinating Taxi and Bus Traffic
To further improve the coordination of bus and taxi traffic, Finavia will take over the coordination of traffic from May 2025. These new measures are part of a larger effort to continuously enhance the operational efficiency and customer experience at Helsinki Airport.
With these updates, Helsinki Airport is making important strides in improving the overall passenger experience by making taxi operations more organized, facilitating smoother drop-offs, and integrating new technologies for better traffic management.
