Cyprus aims to welcome more tourists from Saudi Arabia
According to the country’s Minister for Tourism Savvas Perdios, Cyprus aims to boost the number of Saudi visits by adding new direct flight route.
The new air-route from Jeddah to Cyprus is expected to be opened in a few months, in an attempt to offer Saudi tourists more travelling options when visiting the Mediterranean country.
Minister Savvas Perdios explains:
“We are here campaigning to encourage airline companies to keep their connections with the island and to convince tour operators to set up packages for Cyprus by buying seats on scheduled flights.
“We’ve improved our products, and we want to show the world that Cyprus is not only a sea destination.”
During his visit in Saudi Arabia, the minister also met with representatives of the Saudi Chamber of Commerce, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, airliners and travel agencies, while promoting Cyprus as a cultural world-class destination.
Flights from Jeddah to Cyprus will be added in the near future to already existing Riyadh route.
“We will have two flights weekly on Cyprus Airways. This is going to be a big step for us to increase tourists from Saudi Arabia.”
“Cyprus can be a tourist destination all year round, as it offers various options in addition to the beaches for which it is famous, including cultural tourism, conference and incentives tourism, hiking tourism and sports tourism,” the minister continued.
Moreover, Saudi citizens that have a Schengen or a Cypriot visa can enter the country. New visa regulations, the adding of the new route as well as direct targetting of new tourism sectors are expected to boost the number of Saudi tourists visiting Cyprus.
“In order to prepare for a new era of travel, Cyprus has implemented various initiatives in the tourist industry over the last few years, including the integration of rural tourism and infrastructural upgrades, making the tourism sector more competitive and improving tourism goods”, the minister concluded.
Tourism accounts for 18 percent of the Cypriot economy.
