Airline News

The end of interline agreement for ticketing and baggage was announced last week

The decades-long two important airlines' agreement ended this week, as the two flight companies mutually agree that the reaccomodation payment is no longer beneficial for either one of them.

The former financial agreement allowed passengers to be re-booked on other companies' flights, in case of special circumstances or weather related emergencies, such as storms and hurricanes.

This kind of interline agreements enables carriers to transfer passengers on other flights and get reimbursed for the cost, to manage special situations occurrence.

The collaboration ended because of financial difficulties, as Delta Air Lines officials has noted that “the industry agreement [with American] was no longer beneficial to both carriers”.

According to Delta Air Lines, the number of passengers that American Airlines send to Delta in July was five times bigger than Delta did to American.

Delta Air Lines Senior Vice President, Eric Phillips, declared about the situation: “At that rate, the industry agreement was no longer mutually beneficial. We’ll find other ways to take care of this.”
