easyJet and UNICEF Team Up for "Every Child Can Fly" Education Campaign
easyJet, in partnership with UNICEF, announced the launch of the "Every Child Can Fly" campaign today, aiming to bolster UNICEF's education programs. This collaboration seeks to guarantee that every child, particularly those at the primary and lower secondary levels, has access to quality education by the year 2030. As part of this initiative, easyJet will leverage its extensive network over the Easter holiday period to facilitate onboard donations across approximately 40,000 flights, aiming to significantly impact children's lives worldwide.
This campaign emerges at a critical time, addressing a dire educational crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw a 13% increase in the number of 10-year-olds in low- and middle-income countries unable to read and comprehend a simple text. UNICEF's educational strategy, supported by this campaign, is designed to mitigate these setbacks and ensure that every child has the right to quality education, including during emergencies.
easyJet's CEO, Johan Lundgren, expressed pride in the longstanding partnership with UNICEF, which has already seen nearly £17 million raised through onboard collections. He thanked easyJet's customers and crew for their continued generosity and emphasized the significance of their contributions to children's futures, especially in times of crisis.
Jon Sparkes, Chief Executive at The UK National Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK), highlighted the growing learning crisis affecting children globally. He acknowledged easyJet's role in supporting innovative programs that aim to provide vulnerable children access to education, thus enabling every child to realize their potential.
The partnership between easyJet and UNICEF has been instrumental in raising nearly £17 million since 2012, directly benefiting UNICEF's initiatives to protect children from disease and keep them safe during emergencies. Notable contributions include over £400,000 for children affected by earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria and a record £616,000 in a single month for UNICEF’s Ukraine appeal.
This renewed partnership not only focuses on fundraising but also positions easyJet as a Founding Member of UNICEF UK’s Emergency Alliance. This alliance is crucial for supporting UNICEF's lifesaving efforts in emergencies, calling upon other businesses to join in these vital efforts.
Olivia Colman, President at the UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK), commended the partnership's impact, emphasizing the hope it brings to vulnerable children and families facing unprecedented challenges.
With the "Every Child Can Fly" campaign, easyJet and UNICEF are set to make a significant difference in the lives of millions of children around the world, driving towards a future where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
