Edelweiss Air Launches Year-Round Zurich to Kittilä Flights

Edelweiss Air, a member of the Lufthansa Group, is set to begin year-round scheduled flights from Zurich, Switzerland, to Finavia’s Kittilä Airport in December 2024. This new route marks the second year-round connection between Central Europe and Lapland, further boosting the region's accessibility and tourism potential.

Flight Schedule and Aircraft

The Zurich-Kittilä route will operate twice weekly during the winter season, starting from December 11, 2024. From June to September 2025, the frequency will reduce to once a week on Saturdays. The flights will be serviced by a 174-seat Airbus A320 aircraft, providing comfortable and efficient travel for passengers.

This addition follows the recent announcement by Discover Airlines, another Lufthansa Group airline, which will also offer year-round flights to Kittilä from Frankfurt. Together, these routes will bring the total number of international summer flights to Kittilä to three per week.

Boosting Lapland's Year-Round Tourism

Petri Vuori, SVP of Sales & Route Development at Finavia, highlighted the significance of the new route:

“The development of year-round tourism in Lapland is a shared goal for the entire Finnish tourism industry. Regular scheduled flight connections, which we negotiate with airlines and our partners, are crucial for the region’s international accessibility. So, this new route is a significant achievement.”

The new Zurich-Kittilä connection will not only support tourism but also benefit local residents by providing year-round access to Zurich Airport’s extensive network of destinations.

Expanding International Connectivity

The launch of this route is part of a broader expansion by Lufthansa Group airlines in the region. Other new routes announced for the upcoming winter include:

• Frankfurt to Rovaniemi by Lufthansa
• Zurich to Rovaniemi by Edelweiss Air
• Vienna to Kittilä and Ivalo by Austrian Airlines
• Hamburg to Kittilä and Rovaniemi, and Stuttgart to Rovaniemi by Eurowings
