Edinburgh Castle - most successful visitors period ever

Over the past three months, the iconic Edinburgh Castle welcomed more than half a million visitors
Almost 670.000 visitors stepped through the gates of the Scotland’s top historical site. The number of people who visited the castle is estimated to have increased by 12%, when compared to the same period last year, breaking the records for Scotland.
Moreover, Historic Scotland's overall visits registered 34.000 extra visitors compared to 2014, for more than 1.800.000 people visited the attractions in the summer of 2015.
Historical Doune Castle, Skara Brae, The Orkney, Stirling Castle, Urquhart Castle at Loch Ness, Linlithgow Palace and St Andrews Castle, all reported record breaking visitor numbers' months between June and August 2015.
Fiona Hyslop, Culture Secretary states:
“This record-breaking year for visits to Historic Scotland properties demonstrates the value, significance and growing appeal of Scotland’s heritage to visitors. From Orkney to the Borders, Scotland’s history and heritage-filled landscapes are a truly unique resource, not just in terms of the wider benefits that they offer for all in terms of cultural enrichment – providing an insight into different aspects of our past.
“This potential is illustrated in sites such as Doune Castle, which features in the highly successful TV series Outlander, which now attracts visitors on both a UK and international level.”
