IATA Releases 2015 Safety Performance
2014 and 2015 were two of the safest years in the history of commercial aviation, despite two highly publicized incidents involving the company belonging to Malaysia Airlines aircraft that resulted in hundreds of deaths, reveals a report presented Monday by IATA .
Despite the fact that last year killed more people than the average of the past years, the number of fatalities relative to the total number of flights has decreased its record , according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). While aviation security took the headlines in 2014 , the data show that the flight continue to improve their performance in security is the conclusion of Tony Tyler , IATA 's General Director
The association which represents about 250 airlines reveals that the report on security in 2014 and 2015 includes 12 fatal accidents, resulting in 641 deaths, given that the average of the five years before ( 2009-2013) was 19 fatalities and 517 casualties. Thus, the rate is 0.23 per million flights - or one per 4.4 million flights. In 2013 , this ratio was 0.41 and 0.58 average of five years.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO ), a UN body that regulates the global aviation, proposed after the downing of flight MH370 that every commercial aircraft to report their position every 15 minutes instead of 30-40 minutes of interval.
IATA director told journalists in Hong Kong , that this system will be implemented until November 2016 after airlines rejected the December 2015 deadlin , originally proposed by ICAO.
