Iconic 150-Year-Old Sorrento Beauty Hotel on Mornington Peninsula Transforms into Luxury Resort

Hotels & Resorts

The long-standing Hotel Sorrento in the charming town of Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula is set to reveal its luxurious makeover this December.

Following a recent revamp of its existing guest accommodations, this clifftop hotel has undergone a remarkable evolution. It has added 13 lavish suites that meticulously incorporate limestone, travertine, and timber in their design, paying homage to the picturesque natural surroundings. Each suite will boast an outdoor marble bathtub and will be adorned with bespoke Jardan furnishings and Hunter Lab bathroom amenities. The hotel remains under the stewardship of Rob and Anne Pitt, who assumed ownership in 1981, and their children Bridget, Myles, and Marcus Pitt.

Bridget, reflecting on the expansion, explains, "The expansion was an opportunity for us to evolve Hotel Sorrento into a leading travel destination while honouring its 150-year history. It was particularly important that the new development complemented the beauty and architecture of the existing heritage building while carefully preserving its original detail.”

This expansion encompasses a 30-meter pool, nestled within a terrace graced by lush greenery and olive trees, offering captivating views of Port Phillip Bay. Additionally, a secluded new spa, operated by the local business Marlo Spa, will provide a range of massages and rejuvenating fire and ice therapies. Bridget highlights that the menu will expand to encompass tailored retreat packages crafted by wellness experts from across the globe.

Hotel Sorrento's rejuvenation perfectly complements its existing two restaurants, including the Cantonese-inspired Shihuishi eatery, along with five bars.

Myles adds, "The new development will elevate the hotel to a resort in terms of offering and look and feel. While our regulars will always be able to have a parma and pot in the front bar, guests staying in the hotel will notice a new level of luxury and amenity.”

The grand unveiling of Hotel Sorrento's new development is scheduled for December 2023, and bookings are now being accepted.
