Ireland's Ancient East initiative gets funded by ten counties to develop new attractions to boost country's tourism

“New Ideas in Ancient Spaces” project is expected to collect overall total grants of €2.26m, according to Tourism Minister Paschal Donohoe.

Fáilte Ireland aims recreating the Wild Atlantic Way history and heritage, from Carlinford to Cork, by the end of next summer. 100 'Ireland's Ancient East' orientation signs will be installed to help visitors through their journey.

Among the initiatives, a 3D Viking experience for Waterford Viking triangle catches the eye. "Old school" traditional food production methods will also have their share of the project. At the Clockgate Tower in Youghal a permanent exhibition will be created. Heritage sites will be established in Laois, Cobh, Wexford, Tipperary and Monaghan.

Tourists here will be able to learn about the impact of the Vikings on the country's history and culture. Audio-visual comprehensive tools will also be available for non-English speakers.

Paschal Donohoe declared that the initiatives will help "maintain the momentum of this initiative and build on the impressive tourism assets we have in the east and south of the country".

"As this project evolves and grows, I am confident that it will be a perfect complement to the Wild Atlantic Way in the west and that it will generate significant additional visitors, revenue and tourism jobs in the east," he added.
