At least 36 people were killed on a terrorist attack on the Istanbul Ataturk Airport in Turkey, as Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim officially declared
An additional 147 people were wounded, Turkey's Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag added. The local police also stated that three terrorists were blown up in the "International Departures" aria, refusing to confirm yet the balance announced by the Bozdag Minister.
The attack committed on Tuesday evening at the Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport is most likely to be the work of insurgent separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) or of the Sunni terrorist organization Islamic State. Still, there was no immediate claim of responsibility.
A video from inside the terminal shows people screaming and also the moment when the flash of fire from one of the explosions burst. Victims tried to run and some fall from the blood-covered, slick floor.
On another video there is a man walking with a gun, which he drops when he's apparently shot by a security officer. About 10 seconds later, an explosion occurs. A Turkish official told the Associated Press that two terrorists blew themselves immediately upon entry at the airport when they noticed they had been targeted by gunfire and by law enforcement agencies.
The death number is expected to rise up to 50 during today, one Turkish official told the Associated Press.
