KLM’s Amsterdam-Norwich Route is Now Back at Normal Frequencies

KLM has 17 destinations within the country, including one in Amsterdam. Norwich is one of these cities, and its Amsterdam flights have become more frequent recently.

There are up to four departures per day

KLM Cityhopper, the regional subsidiary of the carrier, announced the increased frequency on KLM's route between Amsterdam Schiphol and Norwich Airport (NWI) at the end March. The corridor will be served up to four times per day on weekdays and three times daily at weekends.

The fact that there are more flights on this route is good news for passengers and the airline, but the recent growth has greater significance. This is the first time that frequency between Amsterdam and Norwich has been this high since the coronavirus epidemic.

The route is now fully operational, so passengers flying from Norwich to Amsterdam have the best choice of flights. Amsterdam has a high proportion of transit passengers (35% in the average, according to Simple Flying), so this will open up more connecting destinations and bring the otherwise isolated Norwich Airport closer the rest of the globe.

Spread throughout the day

FlightRadar24.com data shows that while flights from Norwich to Amsterdam are still as frequent as they were before the pandemic, there is a wide range of times and timings. The departures at 06:00 (KL1514) or 09:30 (KL1516) are best for those who have a full day ahead. Richard Pace (Director of Operations at Norwich Airport) welcomed the increase, saying:

"It's great to see KLM's Amsterdam route from Norwich getting back to full strength with four flights a day on weekdays and up to three a day at weekends. It means passengers from Norwich have even more flexibility, whether that's for a city break or onward travel from Schiphol to more than 270 destinations worldwide."

Departing passengers from Norwich can also choose to fly to Amsterdam at 14:10 (KL1520), or 17:20 (KL1522) on weekday afternoons. Only the Saturday morning departures are available, and the Sunday departure is at 09:30. Each flight takes 55 minutes.

Comfortably, the airport's busiest flight

Unsurprisingly, Amsterdam is the most visited destination from Norwich due to its convenience and numerous departures. CAA data has shown that this corridor saw almost 84,000 passengers in 2022, as compared to 32,000 for Loganair's annual flights to Aberdeen. Tenerife South was the only year-round route for Norwich, with just over 22,000 passengers.
