Korean Air backs Busan's application to host the World Expo 2030

Korean Air is supporting Busan, Korea's second-largest city, in the quest for the event's host.

The World Expo is a global gathering that addresses the pressing problems confronting modern society and celebrates the achievements of mankind. The Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty were also revealed during previous World Expo editions, as were innovations like the telephone, TV, and escalator.

The authority deciding the event’s host will be the Bureau International des Expositions. BIE will hold an election later this year to choose which country will host World Expo 2030 after each potential host nation's proposal has been carefully reviewed.

The flights and travel for the BIE Inquiry Missions heading to Korea this April are being covered by Korean Air. Moreover, a film advocating for Busan's candidature for the Expo is already being played with the help of the carrier's in-flight entertainment system, as well as in its terminals at Seoul Incheon International Airport. Even Korean Air's in-flight magazine, Morning Calm, will promote Busan's readiness to stage the World Expo seven years from now.

Korean Air Jumbos, the carrier's elite men's volleyball team, will also participate in promotional events to boost awareness of the city’s candidacy. The LED boards in the stadium will play movies advertising the Expo and convey support for the event.

Candidates for World Expo 2030 are Busan, Odesa, Rome and Riyadh. The project assessment phase for World Expo 2030 is already on, with each contender having filed a complete candidate case file to the BIE. The host nation of World Expo 2030 will subsequently be decided by BIE Member States, gathering in a General Assembly expected to take place in this year's November.
