Luton Airport Express Gets Refurbished Trains Next Month
London Luton Airport's Express rail service is set for an upgrade, with East Midlands Railway's newly refurbished Class 360 trains entering service next month, featuring modern interiors and enhanced passenger facilities.
The refurbishment introduces a redesigned interior with 2+2 seating combining airline-style seats and table bays for a more spacious layout. Upgrades also include improved luggage storage, power and USB charging points, enhanced passenger information systems, and better accessibility features.
The Luton Airport Express, launched in April 2023, connects St Pancras International to Luton Airport Parkway station, with a seamless connection to the Luton DART people mover bringing the total journey time from central London to the airport terminal to around 30 minutes.
"This multi-million-pound investment from EMR delivers a modern, comfortable on-board experience for the growing number of passengers using the service, further strengthening rail as an attractive, more sustainable option for airport travel," said Alberto Martin, Chief Executive Officer at London Luton Airport.
The refurbishment forms part of a wider £60 million regional investment programme by East Midlands Railway, operated by Transport UK, to modernize trains across its East Midlands network. Additional refurbished Class 360 units will enter service in the coming months as the programme continues.
"This investment will transform the experience for our customers, delivering trains that are more comfortable, more practical and better suited to modern travel," said Will Rogers, Managing Director of East Midlands Railway.
London Luton Airport was named European Airport of the Year (10-25 million passengers) by ACI Europe in 2024 and received a "Very Good" rating in the CAA's 2025 Airport Accessibility report.
