Announcements
Indonesia will be the best spot to watch the forthcoming total solar eclipse (TSE) on March 9, 2016
The event this year, lasting for two minutes and 10 seconds, is considered to be extremely rare: the next TSE will occur after approximately 350 years.
45 cities and 12 provinces in Indonesia will be best observation spots in the world for this spectacular natural phenomenon. Thousands of tourists, scientists and astronomers are expected to join the main TSE event organized by the Indonesian government in the Bangka Belitung (Babel) Province, as all hotels in the area have been fully booked for the occasion.
K.A. Tajuddin, head of the Babel tourist office, commented:
"We are grateful as the TSEs momentum has been able to attract tourists, scientists, and students from throughout the country and the world to visit Babel.”
The TSE will be visible between 6:20 a.m and 6:21 a.m. local time.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya has urged governors to build momentum to attract tourists eager to witness the total solar eclipse.
"Tour and travel agents and managers have also demonstrated good creativity, by offering various travel packages during the total solar eclipse," he stated.
The locals and officials in the islands are set to offer house and hotel accommodation for tourists coming to experience the event and aim to provide beach entertainment, cultural and educational activities, along with traditional food and beverages servings.
