New Digital Nomad Visa Available For Uruguay

The South American country is well-known for its pristine beaches, but it also offers significant benefits for IT employees.
You may not immediately consider Uruguay as a potential location for a remote job. But if you're a digital nomad, this underestimated country's new visa may make it a must-visit.
When compared to other digital nomad visas, this one has a very simple application procedure and minimal set of conditions. Both the lack of a required minimum income and the fact that everything may be done from the comfort of home are contributing factors. The new visa is also a significant benefit for remote workers who work in tech as the government of Uruguay does not tax technical services.

If you're self-employed or working remotely for a company based outside of Uruguay, you may qualify for a digital nomad visa. You and your spouse or dependents cannot apply together but must apply separately. As a tourist, you may use the official government's website to begin the application procedure as soon as you arrive.
Simply provide your basic details and sign a declaration verifying that you have a stable source of income to cover your living expenses while visiting. After completing these steps and submitting the required payment, you will get an electronic copy of your permit valid for up to 180 days in Uruguay.
The cost of the permit is around €9, however you cannot use a foreign bank account to pay for it. This implies that although you may submit an application before arriving, it may be more convenient to wait until you are already in Uruguay. If you don't have access to a bank account or a local friend who can assist you out, you may still pay the charge at one of the many stores in Uruguay where locals go to make bill payments. This must be completed within 24 hours of application submission.
The visa only allows applicants to remain in Uruguay for a maximum of 6 months.
To stay in the country for more than 180 days as a digital nomad, you'll need to provide additional documentation. If you want to stay for up to a year, you'll need to show that you don't have any serious criminal records in any of the nations where you've been more than six months in the five years prior to your application. A vaccination document valid in Uruguay is also required.
It's important to remember that the novelty of the digital nomad visa probably accounts for the ease of this procedure. Right now, no minimum income is required, although this and other criteria are subject to change.
