Noida International Airport Begins Operations with First Flight
Noida International Airport in India began commercial operations today, with the first scheduled flight — an IndiGo Airbus A320 arriving from Lucknow — landing shortly before 08:00 local time. The same aircraft departed soon afterward for Bangalore.
The airport, developed by Zurich Airport Limited, will offer 17 destinations in its initial phase, with a gradual expansion of routes expected over the coming months. Additional carriers, including Akasa Air, are also set to add services.
Noida International Airport, designated DXN, serves the Delhi capital region, one of the fastest-growing economic and aviation markets in the world. The airport is expected to ease growing demand for passenger and freight capacity in northern India and improve connectivity to one of the world's most densely populated regions.
"We are proud to have completed Noida International Airport in around four years of construction — despite major challenges such as the coronavirus pandemic or geopolitical crises," said Daniel Bircher, Chief International Officer of Zurich Airport Ltd. "The first scheduled flight is another important step in our long-term commitment to the Indian aviation market."
Noida marks Zurich Airport Limited's second airport project built from scratch in India, following its earlier development of Bangalore Airport. The company sold its remaining shares in Bangalore in 2017 before being awarded the Noida contract in 2019, this time as sole shareholder.
