Prague and Zurich are now linked through Germany by a new night train

News

All aboard! A new sleeper train will connect the Czech Republic with Switzerland via Germany.

Czech Republic's national railway operator announced the 'Canopus" service last week. It will run from Prague through Zurich, with stops at Frankfurt and Basel along the way.

Travelers will leave Prague at 6.25 pm, and arrive in Zurich, Switzerland, at 9:05 am. This is less than 14 hours after their departure.

The return journey is slightly longer, as the train leaves Zurich at 7:59 pm and arrives in Prague at 9:25 am.

The new route will be a revival service that was shut down in 2017 and launched on 11/12.

Although it is possible to travel between Zurich and Prague via Linz, Austria, this sleeper train is very popular.

According to Michal Krapinec, CD CEO and chairman, the new Canopus service will offer a German route.

“We want to give night traffic another boost,” Rail Journal reports.

“That is why we have prepared a new brand for services related to night travel.”

What will the Canopus night train look like?

The train will be operated jointly by the national railway providers of Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Switzerland (SBB).

Travelers looking to travel will find a variety of options for accommodation, including six-bed couchettes and deluxe sleeping compartments with en suite toilets and showers.
A berth in a six-bed couchette starts at EUR49.90. You'll need to pay EUR59.90 for a berth in a four-bed couchette.

Regular sleepers can be more costly - prices start at EUR69.90 if you need a three-bed, EUR89.90 if you need a two-bed, and EUR139.90 a single-bed. Deluxe sleepers are the most expensive. You can book trains on the Czech railways website.

Why fly when you can take the train?

Flying is the most harmful form of travel.

Currently, about 2 percent of global carbon emissions come from aviation.

A return economy class flight from London to New York releases around 0.67 tonnes of CO2 per passenger, which is roughly equivalent to the amount that the average Ghanaian produces in a year.

People are increasingly turning to non-flight transport to reduce their carbon footprint. This is a great way to offset your carbon footprint. A Eurostar journey from London to Paris produces 14 times the emissions of a flight.
