Technology

According to company CEO, Blue Origin, a space tourism company founded in 2000, will begin testing flights with people in 2017

Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com and Blue Origin founder, is currently investing in one of his childhood dreams: space travel. With thousand of interested space travel tourists waiting in line, Bezos prepares its company to test human flight.

Blue Origin, based in Kent, Ohio, also aims selling rocket engines to companies that plan to launch satellites and spaceships. This translates into a direct competition with the Russian engines providers.

With other U.S. space travel companies like SpaceX and Galactic are currently testing their projects, Bezos declared that he wasn't concerned about competition and that space travel industry allows enough space for everybody to build the next generation of rocket engines or offer space trips to future generations.

The space venture costs are undisclosed, but the high-tech equipment and 600 employees of the company indicate a significant amount of time and money invested in this project.

The real goal of Blue Origin's projects is to perfect their equipment, by making it the safest. To achieve this target, the company flies at least 100 suborbital flights a year. According to Bezos, the other direction Blue Origin focuses on is decreasing the cost of space launches and reusing available spaceships, to make future colonization of Mars, for example, more financially sustainable.
