Dubai Introduces Innovative 'Remote Inspection' Project at GITEX Global 2023

A pioneering initiative harnessing AI and robotics for swift customs inspections is set to position Dubai as a regional leader in technological progress.
Dubai Customs and Dubai South have jointly unveiled the innovative 'Remote Inspection' project at GITEX Global 2023, aligning with Dubai's Economic Agenda D33 objectives to propel the city into the top tier of global economic hubs.
This groundbreaking venture, the first of its kind in the region, is tailored to enhance operational efficiency and reduce customs inspection times through the application of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence. Initially targeting clients and clearance agents affiliated with the Authorized Economic Operator program, the project will debut among logistics sector companies in Dubai South before expanding citywide. In doing so, Dubai asserts itself as a pioneer in adopting these cutting-edge inspection technologies in the region.
The project leverages advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, and a specialized robotic system for precise and efficient inspections within company warehouses. All operations will be monitored remotely by Dubai Customs, eliminating the need for physical visits by customs officers and resulting in significant time and cost savings. The remote inspection system features a user-friendly interface, thermal and infrared cameras, a long-lasting lithium battery, and drone capabilities for top-quality inspections.
H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director General of Dubai Customs and CEO of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, stated, "The Remote Inspection project represents a major leap in customs inspection by eliminating the necessity for on-site inspections, leading to significant time and effort savings. Remote inspectors, stationed at the operations center, will employ modern technologies and advanced equipment for precise and efficient inspections, further enhancing Dubai's status in advanced trade and logistics services."
H.E. Khalifa Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation (DACC) and Dubai South, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "We are thrilled to introduce the Remote Inspection innovation, reflecting our commitment to enhancing cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and security for our partners. At Dubai South, we are dedicated to advancing the logistics services sector in the UAE, with the invaluable support of Dubai Customs."
