Aer Lingus Opens Applications for 2024 Aircraft Engineer Apprenticeship

News

Aer Lingus launches its 2024 Aircraft Engineer Apprentice Programme, offering 10 placements for aspiring engineers. The programme, focusing on hands-on experience with the latest aviation technology, aims to cultivate fully qualified aircraft engineers for its Maintenance and Engineering team.

Aer Lingus is excited to announce the start of its Aircraft Engineer Apprentice Programme for 2024, inviting applications for 10 available positions. This initiative is designed to attract a broad spectrum of applicants, emphasizing diversity in its candidate pool.

Participants who successfully navigate through the programme will emerge as fully certified aircraft engineers, equipped with the skills and knowledge to contribute significantly to Aer Lingus's Maintenance and Engineering team. Moreover, apprentices will gain firsthand experience with cutting-edge aviation technologies, including the environmentally friendlier Airbus Neo series, positioning Aer Lingus for future expansion and sustainability in the aviation sector.

Since its inaugural aircraft apprentice programme in 1962, Aer Lingus has been at the forefront of nurturing talent, with 154 aircraft engineers having joined the airline's ranks since 2011 after completing their apprenticeships.

The comprehensive four-year programme, developed in partnership with SOLAS and Technological University Dublin, offers aspiring engineers a blend of academic study and practical training. Starting in September 2024, the programme encompasses both classroom instruction and hands-on experience, focusing on line-maintenance and Aer Lingus's exceptional customer service. Trainees will begin their journey in Dublin, with portions of the first year spent in Shannon, before completing their training back in Dublin. Graduates are then welcomed into the Aer Lingus family as fully fledged aircraft engineers.

Javier Jimenez, Aer Lingus's Chief Technical Officer, emphasizes the programme's role in fostering the next generation of aircraft engineers, critical to the airline's ongoing evolution and commitment to maintenance and engineering excellence. With limited spots available, interested candidates are encouraged to apply promptly.

Applicants should possess robust technical and mechanical aptitude, a keen enthusiasm for aviation, and the resilience to commit to a four-year learning path. They must also be effective communicators, capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Applications are now open on the Aer Lingus careers webpage. Prospective candidates can submit their CVs online and, if meeting the programme's requirements, proceed to online assessments and interviews. Applicants must be 18 years of age by September 1, 2024.

The application window for this prestigious programme is open until March 19, 2024, at www.aerlingus.com, marking an unparalleled opportunity for those keen to embark on a rewarding career in aircraft engineering with one of aviation's most esteemed carriers.
