Alstom Secures Contract with Israel Railways for 96 Double-Decker Train Coaches Production

Valued at 260 million EUR, the contract with Israel Railways was awarded to Alstom on 23 October 2023 and officially signed on 23 January 2024.

The newly signed contract will allow Israel Railways (ISR) to expand its capacity significantly, enabling the operation of eight-car trains on its routes with these additional double-decker coaches, offering over 1200 extra seats. Furthermore, the contract includes an option for ISR to order more double-decker coaches, allowing for the possibility of assembling 10-coach train sets in the future.

This order is a key component of ISR's strategic initiative to transition exclusively to double-decker trains to accommodate growing ridership demands. To achieve this goal, ISR is procuring new coaches from both Alstom and Siemens Mobility, underlining its commitment to enhancing capacity and improving passenger experience.
