Delta Expands Free Wi-Fi to International Long-Haul Routes

Delta Expands Free Wi-Fi Service to International Flights
Delta Air Lines has begun rolling out fast, free Wi-Fi on select long-haul international routes, presented by T-Mobile, marking a significant step towards offering complimentary in-flight connectivity across its entire global fleet. The rollout, which started this summer, is expected to cover most transatlantic flights by the end of the season, with a broader international expansion continuing into 2025.
A Milestone in Global Connectivity
Delta’s initiative to offer free Wi-Fi to all passengers is already available on nearly 700 aircraft, covering more than 90% of its domestic mainline fleet. The international rollout follows a route-by-route strategy, similar to the approach taken during the domestic Wi-Fi installation in 2022. This method ensures high-quality, reliable service before expanding to additional routes.
By mid-2025, Delta plans to have free Wi-Fi available across all its international routes, including those to Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Regional routes, including those operated by Boeing 717 aircraft, are expected to follow the same process.
Timeline for International Wi-Fi Expansion
Delta has provided an anticipated timeline for the rollout of free Wi-Fi on its international routes:
- August 2024: United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and Italy
- September 2024: Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland
- October 2024: South America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru), followed by Hawaii
- December 2024/January 2025: Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal
- Mid-Late 2025: Transpacific region, including Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa
Transition to Delta Sync Wi-Fi Experience
As Delta continues to enhance its in-flight connectivity, all Viasat Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft will transition to the Delta Sync Wi-Fi experience later this year. Initially, the international Wi-Fi portal will not require a SkyMiles login, but this will change as the Delta Sync experience is rolled out, offering personalized experiences and exclusive onboard offers to SkyMiles members.
Coverage and Availability
During the Wi-Fi transition period, some aircraft may experience coverage gaps due to satellite positioning. Certain flights will continue to offer a paid Intelsat Wi-Fi service until the network is fully upgraded. Passengers can check the availability of free Wi-Fi on their specific flights by visiting delta.com/wifi, referencing pre-flight emails, app notifications, or in-flight announcements.
Delta’s commitment to providing fast, free Wi-Fi across its fleet is set to revolutionize the in-flight experience, ensuring passengers stay connected, whether flying domestically or internationally.
With its industry-leading Wi-Fi rollout, Delta is setting a new standard in in-flight connectivity, making travel more enjoyable and productive for its passengers across the globe.
