Emirates adds domestic flights operations across South Africa

News

The decision is part of the company’s efforts to support South Africa’s post-pandemic economic and tourism recovery by improving air connectivity.

According to a recent official statement, “the airline’s latest move also reaffirms South Africa’s strategic importance on its network, as it prioritises service expansion and rebuilding its capacity to unlock further growth potential.”

Three daily flights to Johannesburg will be available starting March 1 next year, as well as daily service to Cape Town and Durban, starting February 1, 2023 and December 1, 2022, respectively. These flight additions will boost Emirates’ operations in the country to 42 weekly services.

The routes will be served by Boeing 777 and A380 aircraft. The new schedule is expected to ease connectivity to Europe, US, South America, West Asia and Far East.

Moreover, Emirates and the South African Tourism Board closed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) deal promoting South African tourism.

“The additional services to all three gateways will also benefit customers with more connecting choices to an array of domestic and regional cities across Southern Africa via Emirates’ code-share and interline partners, including South African Airways, Airlink, FlySafair and Cemair.

“The unique connections and onward travel options are not offered by any other airline,” the airline’s representatives stated.

Additionally, Emirates’ new routes are also set to enhance cargo capacity in order to support local businesses and commercial trade between the UAE, South Africa and more.
