Emirates Airlines Adds More Flights to Australia

News

Dubai-based Emirates, which is not afraid to seize the opportunity, will increase its services to Sydney and Melbourne.

These flights will be restored to pre-pandemic levels by mid-2019. Also, the airline will be resuming service to Christchurch via Sydney. This will give Australians more options on the popular trans-Tasman route from Australia to New Zealand's South Island.

Emirates will operate 63 weekly flights to Australia, a sign of confidence in Australia's market strength, by mid-year. This will allow 55,000 passengers to travel weekly between Australia's major cities. It opens up opportunities for tourism, business, and visiting family and friends in the Middle East, Asia, and Australasia.

Triple-day services to Sydney and Melbourne

Melbourne Airport (MEL), will offer a third daily flight between Dubai and Singapore (SIN), starting March 26th. Sydney Airport (SYD), will add a fourth direct service on May 1st. These new services will be operated on three-class Boeing 777 300ERs. They offer economy, business, and first-class seats. Exporters will be able to access markets in Asia and Middle East faster with the addition of 22 tonnes of freight capacity.

Emirates today announced that it will increase flights to Sydney and Melbourne. This announcement comes after the airline announced that it will double its daily service to Brisbane starting June 1. The third Dubai-Melbourne flight will increase connectivity between Singapore, Melbourne, and Sydney. However, the Christchurch via Sydney service which began on March 26th will be the only chance for passengers to fly on an Emirates A380. Emirates also offers a daily flight to Perth with the Airbus A380 (PER).

Emirates began flights to Australia in 1996 and has since carried over 40 million passengers. They also continued operations during the pandemic, allowing for important routes for repatriating Australians as well as maintaining exports. Barry Brown, Divisional Vice President Australasia, stated that the airline is seeing significant demand for its services and is committed to providing more options for Australians and tourists, including the Premium Economy cabin. He said:

"Adding a third daily service to Sydney and Melbourne will offer over 500,000 additional seats to and from Australia in a year. To have the two cities operating back at pre-pandemic frequencies is a phenomenal milestone in our restoration of Australia capacity and testament to our longstanding commitment to flying down under."

The extra capacity will not only give passengers more choices and benefits from connecting via Emirates' vast global network but also Melbourne and Sydney Airports will be delighted. Lorie Argus, CEO of Melbourne Airport said that the extra capacity is great news for customers because it meets the high demand for travel from Melbourne to Europe or Asia.

Geoff Culbert, CEO of Sydney Airport, shared those sentiments. He indicated that he is a big fan of the A380, which is a beloved aircraft by Australians.

"These extra flights are another important step towards Australia's international aviation recovery. We are also pleased to see the A380 return on the trans-Tasman after a three-year hiatus, adding extra seats to meet the strong appetite for travel between Sydney and New Zealand."
