Everyone notices when one of the most well-known airlines in the world makes changes to its livery.
Photos of an Emirates Airbus A380 with a new livery started to circulate on social media. Av-geeks speculated whether it was a temporary change or a more widespread one across the fleet. Emirates has confirmed that the new livery will be applied gradually to all of its planes.
What have you noticed?
The A380 tail section is one of the most noticeable changes in Emirates’ current livery. The basic design and concept are the same. However, the UAE flag is dynamic and flows with 3D effect artwork.
The signature "Emirates" lettering is bolder and 32.5% bigger on the fuselage. Emirates' iconic red branding has been retained on the aircraft belly. It was introduced in 2005. The URL for Emirates.com has been removed from the design.

More than 20 years of new livery
Emirates is strict about its livery. The airline's original livery was revealed at its launch in 1985. It was then refreshed 14 years later with the delivery of Emirates first Boeing 777-399 at the 1999 Dubai Airshow. Here is what Sir Tim Clark, the President of Emirates, has to say about the most recent refresh.
"Aircraft livery is the most instantly recognisable brand real estate for any airline. It's a visual representation of our unique identity, something we wear proudly, and display in all the cities we fly to around the world. We're refreshing our livery to keep it modern, without losing the key elements of our identity such as the UAE flag on our tailfin and the Arabic calligraphy."
This year, 24 aircraft will sport the new livery
An Airbus A380 registered A6-EOE is the first aircraft to receive the new look. The 8.6-year old aircraft was delivered to Emirates in 2014. It is not new to livery changes. It has worn special liveries in the past, including the Dubai Expo 2020 and one celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates.
While Emirates continues to paint some of its planes in these liveries, this time it will have the daunting task of repainting the entire fleet with the modified design. Emirates has more than 250 aircraft in its fleet and plans to make this a gradual process.
The refreshed livery will be available on 24 aircraft, 17 Boeing 777s included, by 2023. This new livery will be used on all new Emirates aircraft starting with the Airbus A350's August 2024 entry into the fleet.
