Etihad Airways - New Regional Airline in Switzerland

Etihad Airways, national carrier for the UAE, has just launched a new airline called Etihad Regional, based in Zurich, Switzerland.
Representatives state that this airline is the path towards “a new era of improved regional and international connections for travelers in Europe.”
The Regional division of Etihad has established flights between 15 destinations which will be available year-round. The airplane fleet consists of 10 Saab 2000 turboprop aircraft. The objective is to reach 34 destinations by this year’s second semester.
Among the new destinations, tourists will be able to travel to: Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, Belgrade, Dusseldorf, Zurich and Rome.
Etihad Regional will start their project with 10 aircrafts, newly branded, by June.
The first aircraft with the new branding has been unveiled to the press at ZurichAirport. The 50 seat Saab 2000 has been showcased along with the new interiors and crew uniforms.
This new regional enquiry is part of Etihad’s strategy to build its network by establishing strong partnerships with regional carriers.
Darwin is Etihad’s seventh partner in its string of alliances (the forth in Europe).
The minority shareholding packages owned by Etihad Airways include 40% of Air Seychelles, 3% of Aer Lingus, 24% of India’s Jet Airways, 19.9% of Virgin Australia and 29% of AirBerlin. The next objective is acquiring 49% of Air Serbia by the end of this month. The alliance will serve a total of 400 destinations.
Young in age, Etihad Airways operates since 2003. In 2013, the airline has brought to their desired destination close to 12 million passengers. The company’s hub is Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
