Gaylord Hotels to open its sixth property in Southern California
The 1.8 million sqf Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center will be opened in Chula Vista Bayfront, near San Diego.
The announcement was made by Marriott International, developer RIDA Development Corporation, and finance partner Ares Management, as the resort’s construction has already started. The resort will be managed by Marriott.
Anthony Capuano, Marriott International’s CEO, stated with the occasion:
“We are thrilled to announce the growth of the Gaylord Hotels brand with the addition of the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center.
“Adding a West Coast group destination of this scale and quality to Marriott’s portfolio will provide our customers the exceptional meetings and events service and design that the Gaylord Hotels brand is known for in a highly desired, premier Southern California location.”
The Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center will feature 1.600 hotel rooms and is set to welcome its first visitors in 2025. The complex will be build in the vicinity of San Diego Bay and Chula Vista Marina, and will have an astonishing view over the Pacific Ocean.
Ira Mitzner, CEO of RIDA Development Corp, added:
“The closing of the Gaylord construction loan and the commencement of construction will bring over 10,000 construction jobs and over 4,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs to the state of California. This $1.275 billion project represents the finest of public-private partnership and will create a strong and unique economic engine for the City of Chula Vista, Port of San Diego, and State of California for many decades to come.”
Moreover, Marriott International, RIDA Development and Ares Management have announced a $685 million construction loan from Wells Fargo Bank.

The huge Gaylord Pacific will offer guests 9 signature restaurants, an indoor and an outdoor convention centre, an exhibit hall, 62 high-tech conference rooms, as well as several event lawns and terraces. An outdoor water park, a Relâche signature spa salon and an exclusive fitness centre are also included in the plans.

The economic impacts of this investment will reverberate throughout our city and region with the temporary construction jobs but also the 4,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs that will be created”, declared Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas.
The resort is expected to boost tourism in the area of San Diego. Moreover, the potential economic impact of the facility is expected to bring the State of California over $14 billion.

The new Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center will join the other five Gaylord Hotels properties in Tennesee, Florida, Texas, Maryland and Colorado, all operated by Marriott International.
