Funds will be used to improve parking lots, transportation, 50 miles long bike trails, general park services and facilities.

The 15,000 acres national park located 15 miles of the southern shore of Lake Michigan has recently announced the inauguration of its first entrance fee set to upgrade the site’s amenities.

Prices will vary from $15 to $25 for families entering the park by foot, bike or boat, $20 for those using a motorcycle and $25 for a vehicle pass. Annual passes will be available for $45, while commercial taxes for buses will be as much as $100.

Superintendent Paul Labovitz explains:

“This is a positive step to keep the park accessible, safe and vibrant for all, while allowing us to grow and meet the increased needs of our visitors.

Out-of-town guests expect a fee at most places they visit and everyone can obtain an annual pass for what might be the best bargain in town. Stepping up our maintenance and public safety is needed as well as expanding our role in bringing new amenities forward.”

However, the entrance fee will not be paid if owning a federal land pass, such as Annual Pass, Senior Pass, Veterans, Military Family Pass, Gold Star Family Pass, 4th Grade Pass, Access Pass for disabilities or Volunteer Pass.

Nature enthusiasts aiming to spend time among the park’s amazing landscapes, walking in majestic woods, hiking, biking on endless trails or in search of pleasant activities such as bird watching or flying kites on the beach are expected to visit the enchanting Indiana Dunes National Park for memorable solo or family experiences.
