Italy's New Rail Lines – Visit Picturesque Landscapes

News

The Italian government's train service has put forth additional routes and overnight rides.

Tourists will be able to ride historic trains around Italy to see all the mesmerizing sights, as the country's state-owned railway operator plans to introduce a number of environmentally friendly train lines in 2024.

FS Treni Turistici Italiani will provide three different classes of carriage, from economy to first class, since in the operator's opinion the experience is just as important as the final destination.

According to FS, the "increasing demand for rail tourism" is what inspired the company to launch these new services.

Passengers will be able to travel across Italy with elegance on the Orient Express. The new OE La Dolce Vita is the luxury offering from FS Treni Turistici Italiani. Six itineraries will take the train throughout the country from north to south, including stops at brand-new Orient Express hotels in Rome and Venice. Accor, a hotel chain, is the owner of the service, while FS supplies the vehicles and personnel.

Ride antique trains between cities in Italy will also be available. The new FS lines used by the historic trains are sure to be popular among history aficionados. These will centre on picturesque and historical hotspots and include guided trips, excursions, and tastings.

In addition, "Espressi" trains will be introduced connecting important cities and tourist hotspots, both on the medium and long distances, especially throughout the summer. The railway operator will refurbish train carriages from the 1980s and 1990s to use as restaurants, sleeping quarters, and baggage storage.

On weekends, "Omnibus-Regionali" services will provide local trains at reduced costs. Tourist-friendly itineraries will be mapped out, highlighting picturesque towns with vibrant culinary and vinicultural histories.

The expansion of rail service to these formerly undiscovered areas is expected to stimulate local economies. An FS-commissioned research estimates that for every euro expended on the historic-tourist commuter trains about 1.50 to 3 euros will be spent in the locations visited.
