Malaysia announces new digital nomad visa
According to the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia has launched the “DE Rantau Nomad Pass” aiming to attract international remote workers to the country, as well as actively promote these type of communities.
By creating multiple remote hubs with stable high-speed internet connections, the government hopes to boost the interest of foreign workers in living here for a period of time between 3 and 12 months, this way also helping the local economy.
The nomad visa is available to people earning at least €24,000 per year and the visa tax will account for €221. The offer targets freelancers, contractors and remote employees working in IT or digital marketing sectors. People interested to apply will also be required proof of contract or employment of at least 3 months. The tax for an extra family member or spouse is €110.
The new visa will allow remote workers to spend up to one year in Malaysia and can be extended for up to one more year after expiration date.
