Meliá Hotels International Finds a New Mediterranean Gem

Albania is Europe's last great unexplored treasure.
The hotel chain is confident in the region's tourism potential and is dedicated to establishing itself at the forefront of the worldwide hotel sector's expansion, as it has in other Mediterranean hotspots.
“After seeing first-hand the enormous potential of this country, as well as the commitment of its public and private sectors to open the doors to international tourism, I am convinced that that we are going to start a new success story in the Mediterranean and I am very grateful for the trust that our partners in the country have placed in our company to make this dream possible”, explained Gabriel Escarrer, Executive Vice President and CEO of Meliá Hotels International.
Albania would become one of Meliá's bases in the Balkans and strengthen the company's position in the Mediterranean if the Spanish firm will prove able to assure its foothold in the country's most significant locations and pave the way for future growth.
As part of an iconic architectural design set to unveil in the very center of the city, the upcoming Gran Meliá Tirana stands out as a luxurious hotel with 125 rooms, scheduled to open in 2025.
Moreover, Meliá will launch not one, but two hotels in 2023 in Dürres, Albania's second-largest city and home to the country's most popular beach. Meliá Dürres and the Sol Tropikal Dürres will be their names.
Meliá Dürres will launch as a five-star property on the beach of Gjiri I Lalzit, with 455 guest rooms and 10 houses in addition to a wide variety of additional amenities. Sol Tropikal Dürres, located 8 kilometers from the city center, will be inaugurated following the expansion and renovation of the existing Tropikal Resort, which will involve the construction of two additional buildings to create a contemporary beachside resort with 383 guest rooms, 180 of which will be ready for visitors during the next year.
The Hotel Altea Meliá Collection will open at Palasa Beach and will offer 142 guest rooms and suites.
Three more franchise hotels, bringing the total number of hotels in the company's portfolio to seven, are also announced:
Sol by Meliá hotel in Golem, an example of cutting-edge design, will be dedicated to families and will feature 460 rooms.
The upcoming Eliza Hotel Affiliated with Meliá, a contemporary resort with 46 rooms in Tirana, is under development and might open its doors by the end of 2022.
The Hotel Tomorri, Affiliated by Meliá property with 120 rooms, is the group's most recent signing. The hotel will launch in the city of Berat in 2024.
