New Flights from Manchester Airport to the World's Most Northerly City, Tromsø

Airlines & Airports

Starting this week, Manchester Airport will offer direct flights to Tromsø, known as the world’s most northerly city, thanks to two airlines introducing new services this winter.

New Airline Services

Norwegian Airlines will commence flights to Tromsø on Wednesday, operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Meanwhile, easyJet is set to begin its service on November 19, also with two flights per week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The flight duration is just over three hours, making it an accessible destination for Arctic adventure seekers.

Discover the Arctic Wonders of Tromsø

Tromsø, home to over 80,000 residents, is located on an island in a fjord along Norway’s North Atlantic coast. Visitors to this unique city can enjoy various winter activities, including:

Experience the Enchantment of the Northern Lights

As the only major Norwegian city within the Arctic Circle, Tromsø offers exceptional opportunities to witness the spectacular Northern Lights. The best time to see the Aurora Borealis is from September to early April, with peak visibility occurring in mid-winter.

Wildlife Encounters in the Arctic

For wildlife enthusiasts, Tromsø provides thrilling whale watching tours where humpback whales and orcas are commonly sighted. On land, adventurous travelers may encounter arctic foxes, moose, seals, and white-tailed eagles, making for unforgettable nature experiences.

Embrace the Festive Spirit with a Reindeer Sleigh Ride

Visitors can immerse themselves in the local culture by taking a reindeer-drawn sleigh ride through the snowy landscape. This activity allows participants to learn about the indigenous Sami culture, which has thrived in the Arctic region for over 3,000 years.

Explore Norwegian Folklore at the Troll Museum

Tromsø also boasts the quirky Troll Museum, where guests can engage in an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) experience that delves into Norwegian folklore and mythology, offering insights into the tales that shape the local culture.

Expanding Travel Options from Manchester

Stephen Turner, Chief Commercial Officer at Manchester Airport, expressed enthusiasm for the new routes:

“Here at Manchester Airport, we're proud to connect the people of the North to an ever-growing route network of over 200 destinations. These new services to Tromsø are a truly exciting addition, providing a unique option for those planning their next city break or adventurous holiday. Tromsø is the most northerly destination available from Manchester, giving visitors an authentic taste of life inside the Arctic Circle.”
