New York City Wildfire Smoke Updates

News

The number of flights that have been postponed throughout the United States has reached 2,000.

Diffuse orange smoke from Canadian wildfires has considerably affected traffic at key hubs in the United States, delaying numerous flights in the New York City region.

The FAA acknowledged that travel to and from New York City zone airports has been impeded owing to limited visibility from wildfire smoke, while the agency will keep adjusting traffic volumes to reflect the ever-changing circumstances.

Over 100 planes have been postponed at LaGuardia, while 55 flights have been delayed at Newark, FlightAware informed. There have been delays to roughly 2,000 flights throughout the country.

Flight delays at LGA Airport have been attributed to the weather, according to an official tweet. Passengers were also advised to contact the airline directly to find out the current status of their flight. Likewise social media posts were made by Newark, which said that flights may be seriously affected by the present smoke situation. The airport in New Jersey followed up the first tweet with another one saying, "FAA Air Traffic Control has started a Traffic Management Program at EWR." This is causing delays for incoming planes and might potentially influence departure times. Passengers aiming to find out whether their flight has been delayed or cancelled, should contact their airline directly.

As a result of the decreased visibility caused by wildfire smoke, the FAA issued a further statement saying that it is currently limiting operations from the East Coast and Midwest destined for Philadelphia International Airport. Air quality advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for most of the United States, including New York state, due to the smoke.
