On The Greek Island Of Mykonos, You Can Now Take An Uber By Boat

Launching this summer, the service will provide inhabitants and visitors with yet another water-based mode of transportation.
The stunning island now has its own private chartered boat service, thanks to Uber. The new boat service was unveiled during Uber's third annual Go-GET product event in New York, allowing users to quickly travel between Mykonos's coastline hotspots.
Each Mykonos Uber Boat will carry up to eight people. The price of a trip will depend on how many times the boat docks during a specific tour.
Past Uber services have included watercraft alternatives in a number of cities worldwide. On the other hand, this time the corporation will own the boating service, as in the past, such services were held by third-party businesses.
Booking a boat ride with Uber Boat on Mykonos works similarly to booking a vehicle with Uber, the more well-known and popular form of Uber's road transport service.
Although Uber Boat will initially only operate in Mykonos, the popularity of the service there might lead to its expansion to other Greek locations.
The Greek branch of Uber was launched in late 2014. While the ride-hailing app provided an additional service for customers in Greece, its debut was received with animosity from the taxi industry since most drivers saw the company's existence as a danger to their jobs. The conflict between Greek cab drivers and Uber has been ongoing since 2014. A strike by SATA-affiliated taxi drivers in Athens, Greece, in March 2018 was the response to Uber's rapid growth in the city. Greek taxi finding apps like Taxibeat and Taxiplon have also challenged Uber, eliminating any rivalry in the radio cab market and prompting businesses to develop their own smartphone apps.
On the other hand, the Greek government promised to implement stricter rules for the transportation industry. As a result, Uber discontinued parts of its Greek services, most notably UberX, which had first debuted in the Greek capital of Athens in 2015.
