SAS Expands Swedish Network with New Routes and Increased Domestic Capacity Starting January 2025
SAS is excited to announce the expansion of its domestic operations in Sweden through a newly established partnership with Braathens Regional Airways AB (BRA). Starting in January 2025, SAS will introduce new routes to Halmstad, Kalmar, and Sälen, significantly enhancing connectivity across the country.
Strengthening Domestic Connectivity
In response to the challenges faced in the domestic market, SAS is committed to providing sustainable, long-term air connectivity within Sweden. The wet lease partnership with BRA allows SAS to operate additional aircraft, thereby increasing capacity on key domestic routes and ensuring reliable air travel for passengers. This expansion offers travelers greater flexibility and more convenient connections to international destinations from Arlanda Airport.
Economic Impact and Infrastructure Development
Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “Building from Arlanda Airport, this partnership strengthens Swedish infrastructure, connecting local communities to the world and fostering greater global accessibility and opportunities. We’re thrilled to open new routes to Halmstad, Kalmar, and Sälen and look forward to continuing our collaboration with local airports and regional partners to ensure the success of these routes.”
Benefits for Travelers
These enhancements are set to benefit both business and leisure travelers, reinforcing Arlanda’s status as a key hub for domestic and international travel. The improved connectivity is expected to boost tourism, support local businesses, and stimulate the Swedish economy by facilitating smoother travel for commercial and recreational purposes.
With the launch of these new routes and increased domestic capacity, SAS continues to play a vital role in linking regional hubs with the capital and beyond, driving economic growth and regional development across Sweden.
