The renowned 'Path of Love' in Italy reopens after a decade-long closure

News

The famous hiking trail will be back in full force by 2024.

The Italian Via dell'Amore ("Path of Love") is known as the "most romantic walk in the entire world." It's the most popular of the 75 miles (121 km) of trails that wrap around the five villages of the Cinque Terre UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The trail was closed in 2012 after a landslide. Now, after extensive remaking, the first section is open for an extended summer preview through September 30. Visitors will be able to enjoy it starting with July 2024.

In order to avoid over-tourism, the only way to enter this extremely popular region is through a guided tour. Tickets are available at only $5, which is more than affordable for every pocket. The establishment of this fee will protect the landscape in the future.

Moreover, tourists are expected to respect the local culture and heritage in order to make sure that this "path of love" does not turn into a "walk shame".
