Tourism in Hong Kong is growing during Easter holiday

Outbound tourism is expected to grow by 5 per cent each year, according to The Travel Industry Council executive director's opinion
On the other hand, Joseph Tung Yao-chung declared that inbound tourism experienced a drop in mainland visitors number, when compared to last year's figures. Tour bookings during this prolonged Easter weekend, registered at Hong Thai Travel, confirm Tung’s estimation.
Devaluation of local foreign currencies and lower holiday budgets had prompted people to take shorter trips this year. The top outbound Easter most popular destinations for Hongkongers in 2016 were Taiwan, Japan and South Korea.
When it comes to long-haul destinations, Hongkongers currently prefer Australia. The recent terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels significantly determined Chinese citizens to avoid Europe, especially the Mediterranean Sea region.
Meanwhile, government official figures released indicated that foreign visitor arrivals to Hong Kong decreased by a total of 8.3 per cent, with a 12.6 per cent drop recorded for mainland tourists.
