U.S. state department releases travel warning for Europe

World Security

The United States state department has recently issued a travel alert regarding potential terrorist attacks targeting Europe

The travel alert was released due to concerns over terrorists intentions of planning attacks on main attractions and European events, as well as crowded restaurants, commercial centres and transportation hubs.

For instance, as this year France will welcome the European Football Championship for one month, between June 10th and July 10th, the country is considered to be highly risky for foreign tourists. The U.S. state department warned U.S. nationals planning to travel to France for the Football Championship to be cautious over the possibility of terrorist attacks.

“The large number of tourists visiting Europe in the summer months will present greater targets for terrorists planning attacks in public locations, especially at large events,” the warning quotes, despite France extending the national state of emergency until the 26th of July covering both the Football Championship and the Tour de France cycling race.

Nevertheless, all the main events throughout Europe this year are considered to be vulnerable for extremist groups attacks. The American citizens traveling to Europe any time this year have been advised to remain alert when in crowded places or while using public transportation in big cities.
