You Can Now Own a Piece of Air Tahiti’s Nui’s Airbus A340

News

If you want a piece of Air Tahiti’s Nui’s Airbus A340, now is the time to act as the retired airplanes were scrapped and repurposed.

Air Tahiti Nui has gone with the flow over the last few years. In September 2019, the airline retired its last Airbus A340s and switched to the more efficient Boeing 787. These Airbus A340s were scrapped and some parts of them have been repurposed into key tags.

Quad-jets have seen a dramatic decline in popularity over the past decade. The single-deck Airbus A340 is the most prominent quad-jet. Many airlines now know that four engines are more efficient than two. It is in the best interest of airlines to conserve fuel in an age of rising fuel prices.

Aviationtag is now selling parts of the Air Tahiti Nui Airbus A340. Aviationtag has made key tags from pieces of the fuselage. The tags have been colored by Air Tahiti Nui, which is a departure from previous editions that were 'plane' white. The company has now put the tags on sale at EUR32.95 (35.78). This special edition was commissioned by the airline to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

Torea Colas (Marketing and Communication Director at Air Tahiti Nui), commented on the partnership.

This Aviationtag X Air Tahiti Nui Edition is a rare opportunity to preserve a piece from the airline's past. This beautiful creation is not only beautifully made, but it also serves as a lasting reminder about all the wonderful years of amazing emotions and incredible trips.

About the aircraft

An Airbus A340-300 with serial number 395 is the plane that was upcycled. Although the aircraft was originally built for Sabena in Belgium, it was never delivered to them after their collapse. It was donated to Canada 3000 in September 2001 as C-GZIA, but it soon collapsed.

Air Tahiti Nui received the jet in January 2002. The plane was christened "Bora Bora" and placed on the French aircraft register under F-OJTN. According to data from ch.aviation.com the aircraft flew 62,482 hours over 7,600 flight cycles. Air Tahiti Nui sadly said goodbye to the aircraft on December 2018. It was then scrapped in San Bernadino to the east Los Angeles.

Air Tahiti Nui changed its loyalty to Boeing and the 787 Dreamliner after the Airbus A340 was retired. Air Tahiti Nui currently operates four 787-9s that were delivered between August 2018 and October 2018. They range in age from 3.5 to 4.33 years. According to Cirium schedule data, the carrier uses the fleet to fly non-stop to Aukland (AKL), Seattle (SEA), and Papeete(PPT) in French Polynesia. Paris (CDG), with a stop at Los Angeles (LAX) are also available.

Air Tahiti Nui set the record for the longest domestic flight, flying non-stop from Papeete to Paris Charles De Gaulle during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was in March 2020. Two months later, the record was broken by the French bee flying from Papeete To Paris Orly.
