The best airline in the world brings its newest planes into the US and expands its premium services despite competitors' concerns
According to Qatar Airways announcement this week, the airline company will begin operating new flights between its home base in Doha, Qatar and the United States. The airline's fleet of Airbus A350 jets will service the new routes.
The flights will be inaugurated on January 1, 2016, with the Doha-Philadelphia route.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker stated:
"We are proud to be the first commercial airline to land the Airbus A350 in the United States.
"As the global launch customer of this new-generation aircraft, we are excited to introduce it to the American market."
The Persian Gulf-based airline owns a 168 aircraft fleet (with more 330 jets on order), valued at more than $70 billion. The company was awarded “Airline of the Year” In June 2015, by leading aviation consumer organization Skytrax.
Qatar Airways operates between 152 destinations around the world, including US - New York, Philadelphia, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Houston and Washington D.C. Los Angeles, Boston and Atlanta are among the company's targets for next year.
Qatar is the launch partner for the Airbus A350-900 twin-engine long-range airliner. The airline will add eight of the jets to its fleet by the end of the year and has another 72 on order.
The plane, powered Rolls-Royce Trent turbofan engines, has a 325 passengers capacity and a flying autonomy of around 8.700 miles.
