Rail Disruptions Ahead for Berlin Airport Public Transport
Passengers traveling to and from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) by public transport should plan ahead for a series of disruptions affecting S-Bahn and regional rail services from mid-June 2026.
From June 12 at 22:00 until July 6 at 01:30, S-Bahn lines S9 and S85 will only run between BER Airport and S Altglienicke. Rail replacement buses will cover the remaining sections of both routes. Bus S9X will connect BER Airport with S Baumschulenweg, stopping only at S Adlershof and S Schöneweide. Bus S9A will serve all intermediate S-Bahn stations between S Grünbergallee and S Baumschulenweg.
Regional train services are also affected. The RB32 will be diverted on selected days between June 12 and 28, with trains rerouted between Hohenschönhausen and BER Airport, omitting stops at Lichtenberg, Ostkreuz, and Schöneweide. The FEX airport express and RE20 will continue to run jointly at a combined frequency of four services per hour until December 2026.
The most significant long-term disruption is the complete closure of the Berlin Stadtbahn between Charlottenburg and Ostbahnhof to regional and long-distance trains from June 14 until December 12, 2026, due to extensive maintenance work.
Passengers are advised to check current journey times and replacement service details via the VBB journey planner at vbb.de before traveling.
