Royal Caribbean launches terminal in Galveston

News

According to Royal Caribbean, the new $125 million construction will cover all of its energy demands through solar panels, as the new terminal in Galveston will also be the home port of the giant 5.400-guest capacity Allure of the Seas ship. More than 630.000 cruisers a year are expected to transit the terminal.

Michael Bayley, the CEO of Royal Caribbean International, gave the inauguration speech:

“We are thrilled to take family vacations to a whole new level in Texas. Our new, 161,334-square-foot terminal opens up a world of vacation possibilities for families in the Southwest.

“Now our unmatched Oasis Class ships, known as the best family vacations in the industry, can set sail from Galveston. Allure of the Seas is just the beginning, and we thank the Port of Galveston, Ceres and all the teams involved for making this bold vision a reality.”

Allure, the biggest ship in Texas, is set to debut from its home port on November 13 and sail across the Western Caribbean including Costa Maya, Cozumel and Roatan.

The terminal in Galveston was inaugurated just before delivery of the next Royal Caribbean’s ship, Icon of the Seas, scheduled for the beginning of the next year.

As for current vaccination policy, passengers should know that unvaccinated travellers over 12 years of age are required by the cruise company to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken three days before embarkation. The rule does not apply for vaccinated passengers.
