Schiphol Closes Zwanenburgbaan Runway May 18–27 for Maintenance
Schiphol Airport is closing its Zwanenburgbaan runway for annual maintenance from Monday May 18 through Wednesday May 27, with work taking place on weekdays only. The runway will remain available during weekends and on Monday May 25.
Flights normally using the Zwanenburgbaan will be redirected to the Polderbaan and Kaagbaan during the closure, with the Buitenveldertbaan and Schiphol-Oostbaan also available depending on wind conditions.
Maintenance work, carried out in collaboration with construction company Heijmans, covers the full range of routine tasks: asphalt and marking repairs, electrical system and cabling inspections, stormwater drainage flushing, grass mowing, and light cleaning or replacement.
As with the recent Polderbaan closure, the Zwanenburgbaan works are being coordinated with the ongoing renewal of Taxiways A and B — the routes aircraft use to reach and leave the runways — to limit the overall disruption period for passengers and local residents as much as possible.
The use of alternative runways will mean some neighbourhoods experience more aircraft overhead than usual during the maintenance window. Schiphol says it plans all runway maintenance carefully to minimise that impact.
Residents with questions can contact the Local Community Contact Centre Schiphol (BAS), available seven days a week between 9:00 and 17:00 on 020 601 5555 or via their website. Weekly air traffic updates are also published on both the BAS and Schiphol websites.
