1) JUST WHAT EVERY BUSINESS PERSON NEEDS RIGHT IN UMHLANGA: HOME BRU GRAFT CAFÉ
The business person traveling to Durban from out of town, who needs a meeting space, boardroom, place to interview staff or desk to work at with high speed WI fi (yes very hi speed) and all the facilities and mod cons you need in an office, for a day, week or month this is the ideal solution. The vibe is “outstanding”, coffee excellent, lunch “oh so different” or oh just the same – up to you and the best is they are situated conveniently half way between Durban and King Shaka airport. The best is you can even work “outside in the fresh air” – yes ok it is a non-smoking area, but for those smokers like me – well we just make a plan.

For the KZN business person – those days when you need to escape out of the office, to achieve your goal, but still have to work with all the connectivity and support – ideal and the coffee – and vibe – you will be far more creative. The person who works from home and needs to meet with clients – cannot think of a better venue.

Working in isolation or being in a start-up can be difficult when you’re not in the right environment. Step into a world that will stimulate you creatively, connect you with a bunch of awesome people and give you the space you need to take your work to a new level of greatness.

The vibe and setting lends itself to creativity and productivity and has all the mod cons that most offices would only dream of having – the team are very efficient, friendly and passionate.

There’s nothing better than going home after a long day of work, unless you work at home - in which case, it must get pretty lonely. Not to mention the frustration you probably feel from trying to stay productive and motivated. How many tries before you finally swished that Coke can into the bin? What you need is an office away from home, a space where you are surrounded by people that motivate and inspire you. You need access to things like printers, scanners, a boardroom and great coffee. Our work space is the raddest environment to get a head start on your business and if, for some unfathomable reason, you miss the work-from-home life, we’ll even include a bin in the corner.

Need to get that CV, presentation or concert ticket printed urgently? No worries, we’ve got your back with our printing and scanning services. The prices are chilled, the quality is great and it’s the perfect excuse to have another shneaky cup of coffee while you wait.

Home Bru is open from 06h00 – 20h00 so ideal for the local cyclists, runners or on the way back from gym to sample their health fair especially prepared for the health conscious or maybe you just need a craft beer in the afternoon or a chilled rad atmosphere?

Need a break from chilling on the beach all day? Perhaps you’re looking for a rad work environment where you’re surrounded by epic humans? Pull in for a flat white, a craft beer or grab some of their incredible chow while you work, mingle, take a nap or come up with the next world-changing idea.

They also have Comedy/Entertainment shows from time to time – best you save this number as they book up fast

2) SELF-CATERING: WITS END – CHAMPAGNE VALLEY – CENTRAL DRAKENSBERG
The saying “everything happens for a reason” is a testament for me getting into my car and going to view this property. My 27 something years in the hospitality Industry I have “dabbled” in the self-catering industry but not been convinced until May this year when we did a trip to Namibia and did self-catering – I experienced it properly for the first time. When I received the e-mail I was very excited and those in the Industry who know me – client service, cleanliness and versatility are the 3 things I look for and am a stickler for. This property ticked all 3 boxes.

Graham Barry the owner personally showed me around the property, his assistant Lynette who was hosting the local ladies meeting who met us afterwards proved to be that flexible person I look for –“ the client is number 1 and what they are looking for is what we try to deliver” – music to my ears!

Whilst this property is first and foremost self-catering, they adapt to do bed and breakfast or dinner bed and breakfast. They do team building, conferencing and weddings and because they are so flexible there are not any restrictions – although they are really honest and will tell you if it is not in their league – honesty, another really good trait.
The small owner run resort has 9 comfortably furnished chalets ranging from 4 sleeper 2 suite chalets, 6 sleeper 3 suite chalets & 6 sleeper family chalets and 8 sleeper group chalets, all with magnificent mountain views and fireplaces for cosy winter evenings. The atmosphere is relaxed, the chalets carefully appointed for privacy and the resort is centrally located in one of the most popular tourist areas in the country
All chalets are fully equipped with stoves, ovens, microwaves, fridge/freezer, DStv, fans, heaters, safes, fireplaces, covered verandas, and individual braai areas.
The resort has a rock pool and Lapha alongside which is an outdoor braai area with a pizza oven and Mongolian braai ideal for group entertaining.
If you have dreamt of a fairy-tale wedding away from the hustle-bustle Wits End’s wedding venue is the ideal setting. Situated in the heart of the Champagne Valley, Central Drakensberg with breathtaking mountain views. The purpose built reception venue can seat up to 150 people with on-site accommodation for 60 people in 9 fully equipped chalets. Reminiscent of a spacious stone farmhouse, with soaring ceilings and exposed beams, flowing onto a wide veranda overlooking a tranquil dam and acres of unspoiled rolling mountain grasslands. A grand stone fireplace means that a cozy winter wedding is also a lovely possibility.
Enjoy the distinction of a destination wedding without the hassle of bringing it all together. At Wits End they will take care of every detail of your perfect day be it a small boutique wedding of 30 people to a larger event of up to 150 and they are assisted by a panel of approved vendors who can meet your every wedding need, including décor, flowers and photographers.
As far as the ceremony is concerned there are various chapels in the Champagne Valley and surrounding areas, as well as many gorgeous outdoor spots on the property for you to exchange your vows. Needless to say that photo opportunities in this exquisite part of the world abound and there is no need to waste time travelling for your photos.
The LAPA next to the rock pools offers an ideal venue for a pre-wedding gathering, be it a braai or Pizza evening and for your convenience has a service kitchen attached for your exclusive use.

3) BESPOKE HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTRE – CENTURION – PRETORIA: ROYAL ELEPHANT HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTRE
This Bespoke property has been part of my life for many years – I remember walking around it as a building site. Each business/company I have owned and company I have worked for I have always had this property on the portfolio. It is also the one property that is truly my home away from home where I don’t really want to leave to go home, I am just so “at home”.
The Royal Elephant Hotel has 40 bedrooms including a royal presidential suite. All the rooms and suites are individually decorated using traditional Moroccan & North-African furnishings and antiques, as well as unique pieces from distinguished Southern African artists and artisans.
With its breathtakingly strong decorative features, the dramatic Zagora Grill Room Restaurant serves a delicious fusion of North-African and International Cuisine.
The name ‘Zagora’ comes from the name of a town in the valley of the Drâ’a River in Souss-Massa-Drâ’a, south-eastern Morocco. Originally it was called ‘Tazagourt’, Berber for ‘twin peaks’, referring to the form of the mountain.
The aromas from the kitchen, and eclectic blend of fresh ingredients and spices, creativity and passion, provide the foundation for an extraordinary dining sojourn – in splendid surroundings.
Dine inside the formal restaurant, al fresco around the pool, at the pergola underneath the stars, or somewhere private just for two!
The Oasis Bar is a resident bar situated next to the Zagora Grill Room and The Royal Lounge, overlooking the pool deck and ideal for those intimate, relaxing pre-dinner cocktails.
Moulay Lounge, perfectly named after ‘Moulay’, a small surfing village in Morocco and also the chosen name of many Moroccan monarchs, overlooks the pool area and deck at the Royal Elephant. The lounge’s regal ambience makes it ideal for smaller cocktail functions. Selected menus are available for private functions; reservations for Moulay Lounge must please be made in advance.

The Royal Lounge is located next to the Reception and the Oasis Residents Bar. It is a peaceful area where Hotel guests can relax and unwind after a long and busy day, with service available from the Oasis Resident’s Bar. This lounge is available to hotel guests and not open to the public or private events.

In celebration of Africa’s winemaking legacy, the Wine Cellar is a cool and appealing space that is a stylish extension of the Hotel’s hospitality, welcoming sophisticated intimate affairs. Sexy, functional and fresh, the cellar room receives groups for an unsurpassed wine and culinary experience.
The décor of the Wine Cellar, situated below the Zagora Grill Room, embraces the world of winelands charm, contrasting a quirky mix of nostalgia and Cape Dutch modernism. This venue is ideal for private celebrations or corporate functions.
The hotel conference facilities vary from a variety of Boardrooms to facilities catering for up to 500 people.
With these facilities one is able to be flexible and cater for almost any type of function, conference, wedding or team building.
