Inbound tourism to the UK set a new record in 2015, accounting for 35.8 million visits, 4 per cent higher than the previous year
UK experiences the sixth consecutive year of inbound tourism growth, with six million more visits than in 2010. This translates into a 20 per cent increase, with visitor spending as high as £21.8 billion.
According to the statement of the Tourism minister David Evennett, “tourism is one of the UK’s fastest growing industries, and attracting more international visitors to our shores is not only important for the sector but for the nation’s whole economy.”
“These record figures show how our incredible mixture of stunning countryside, world-class sport, historic buildings and thriving cities continue to be a major draw for tourists,” he added.
North America was again the most valuable tourism source market for UK, with a 8 per cent increase when compared to 2014. EU15 markets and the ‘Rest of the World’ market also registered significant two per cent and six per cent increase respectively.
Holiday and family visits were on top of the journeys' purposes. According to the International Passenger Survey, business trips went up six per cent, with almost 3 million visits.
VisitBritain forecast expects 36.7 million visitors during 2016.
