4th July – U.S. Independence Day Traditions

News

Going back 241 years, the spirit of the country gets celebrated every 4th of July, marking the Independence Day of the United States of America.

Fireworks, barbecues and parades are common traditions in the United States during this time of the year, when the entire country celebrates its unique free spirit and history.

While people forget about their differences and celebrate this day by traveling and enjoying the holiday, there are a few special traditions from across the country that are already a part of the American culture.

For instance, people in South Central Kentucky can be found shooting old electronics as a way to celebrate the Independence Day. As strange as it may sound, the gun-loving culture of the country is part of the festivities in some parts of the territories.

Tapping the Liberty Bell 13 times in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is another public ceremony you can attend to if visiting the U.S. on Independence Day. The custom relates to the original 13 colonies that founded the nation we can see today.

Moreover, both men and women can enjoy Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest in Brooklyn, New York City, a highly popular championship that is aired live on ESPN television. Nevertheless, salmon is preferred in New England.

South Carolina marks the celebrations by its own unique boat parades, while the Mescalero Apache communities honor girls’ puberty rituals by dancing and singing for nights. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, California, the Mime Troupe performs a free shows across the city parks.

And least but not last, after the traditional barbecues, drinking and spectacular parades, make sure you’ll find the best spot to watch the amazing 4th of July fireworks.

Happy birthday, America!
