Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park of Allama Iqbal Town was under taliban attack on Sunday; people killed – 70; people injured – over 250
A suicide attack targeting women and children took place on Sunday evening in Pakistan, leaving 70 people dead and at least 250 injured.
Claimed by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan Jamaatul Ahrar, the blast took place at a children's park in the residential area of Lahore.
The emergency call arrived at around 6:45 pm. Consequently, more than 20 ambulances were sent to the attack scene, as “body parts” were scattered everywhere. Hospitals in the city have immediately entered the emergency mode, trying to help the survivors.
The Punjab government has already declared three days of mourning for the victims of the blast.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif called Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) for an emergency meeting to start operations for preventing such attacks and fight terror. “Inhumane savages will not be allowed to overrun our life and liberty,” he declared.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also condemned the blast, as he considers the attack as cowardly due to its targeting of women and children. The PM also urged for the hospitals to provide inured people with intensive "special medical care". "My children, brothers and sisters have been targeted in this attack," Nawaz commented.
