90 SpiceJet pilots banned from operating Boeing MAX planes

News

The pilots must undergo retraining until the Directorate General of Civil Aviation's (DGCA) clears them to operate on Boeing Max planes again. The decision was made after piloting difficulties were discovered at a simulator near Delhi.

Nevertheless, the crew will operate unrestricted on other Boeing 737 aircraft.

"We are working closely with all parties involved including our supplier and the DGCA to ensure the maintenance and operation of this specific device complies with all regulatory requirements. We are committed to ensuring our customers receive high quality simulation experiences in accordance with all regulations”, representatives from Boeing stated.

Arun Kumar, from India's DGCA, also commented:

“The pilots need to retrain successfully and we will take strict action against those found responsible for the lapse.”

The 737 MAX aircraft was approved for flying again this August, following a long grounding due to two fatal incidents that occurred three years ago. One of the conditions of the clearance was to put the pilots back in the simulator for new intensive training sessions.
