American Airlines Cargo announced Monday it had partnered with a humanitarian organisation to transport vital medical and sanitation supplies to Haiti.

These efforts are being made amid the deadly cholera epidemic that has swept the Caribbean.

American will be working with Airlink, a humanitarian non-profit organization that provides critical assistance to communities in need. Both organizations have partnered for the second time to provide humanitarian aid to those in need.

Fort Worth-based carrier will transport more than 55 tons medical supplies from Europe and Miami, where they will be distributed to Haiti. American stated that it will be a crucial link in transporting personal protective equipment (PPE), clean drinking water filters, blood tubes and other sterile items to fight the crisis.

American Airlines Cargo President Greg Schwendinger said that the airline is proud of its ability to deliver essential items.

"We're proud to partner with Airlink to make a positive impact on the world. At American, our mission is to care for people on life's journey, and we are honored to play a role in transporting critical goods to the people and places they are needed most." - Greg Schwendinger, President of American Airlines Cargo

The cholera epidemic began in October last year. This disease spreads mostly through contaminated water and food, and has already claimed the lives of thousands in Haiti. Healthcare workers have also had to deal with civil unrest in Haiti, making it difficult to get supplies.

The almost doubled petrol price caused Haitian protests, which led to the collapse of the nation. However, the country has been facing other problems recently. The country faced a number of economic, political and security crises last fall. According to the United Nations, in July 2021, the President of the country was assassinated. In August, a devastating earthquake devastated the southern Caribbean islands nation.

Airlink transports emergency supplies and relief workers for non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Airlink can collaborate with airlines to help provide humanitarian resources around the globe.

"As global citizens, our airline partners work with Airlink to better help the communities they serve," the organization said. "Airlink works with emergency managers and corporate social responsibility departments to identify areas airlines can make an impact through supporting high-quality humanitarian programs."

According to the organization, its unique model combines skilled humanitarian actors with commercial aviation assets and the power of individuals and companies within the aviation industry to create a force for good.

"Through the collective expertise of Airlink's staff and partners throughout the aviation and air logistics industries, challenging supply chain issues that arise from humanitarian emergencies are solved," the organization noted. "Ultimately, this allows NGOs to deploy their response personnel and material aid quickly, efficiently, and at low cost."

Airlink was founded by American in March 2022 as a humanitarian aid transporter for those affected by the conflict in Ukraine. The airline has transported nearly 90 tons worth of life-saving supplies to this region. According to the carrier, Airlink's partnership has allowed it to transport relief personnel and cargo for 47 non-profit organizations. This has enabled them to support humanitarian efforts in 21 countries.
