Barcelona Museum Embraces Nudist Guests for an Unclad Sculpture Tour

News

In an intriguing confluence of life and art, a Barcelona museum warmly embraced naturists over the weekend, offering them an au naturel tour amidst photographs featuring statues of bare warriors.

One participant beautifully articulated, "Nudity has always existed, and bodies should not be a source of shame for anyone."

The Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia, in collaboration with the Catalan Naturism Club, extended this unique 90-minute experience. For the occasion, attendees shed all attire except for shoes, gaining insight into the portrayal of unclothed warriors through the lens of photographer Luigi Spina.

Marta, a 59-year-old health professional and devoted naturist, shared her perspective, "I feel the same intensity as observing it with clothes on, but with the difference that we might understand better that nudity has always existed and bodies should not be a source of shame for anyone."

The tour guide, Edgard, enthusiastically narrated the exhibit to the group, remaining unclothed himself. He explained:

"We wanted to make it a more colourful visit and not the typical guided tour."

The focal point of this event was the Bronzes of Riace exhibition, featuring Luigi Spina's photographs showcasing two monumental Greek bronze statues of undraped warriors from the 5th century BC. These statues, unearthed in 1972 near Riace, Italy, have since become iconic representations of ancient artistry.

The museum's website lured visitors with the promise of a unique experience, inviting them to "admire the works by posing in the same situation as they are, completely naked and surrounded by other bodies".

It's worth noting that not all tourist attractions are as welcoming to nudist enthusiasts. Just earlier this year, two European tourists were expelled from Machu Picchu for engaging in nude photography, underscoring the varying perspectives on nudity within the tourism industry.
